Heating mat for the bathroom - You need to know this!
Electric floor heating in the form of a heating mat is an element of luxury in any bathroom. Its operation provides a nice, warm floor. After getting out of a hot shower, you will no longer experience the shock of touching cold, unpleasant tiles. The gentle heat, evenly emitted throughout the floor, will be the perfect complement to a hot, lush bath. You can forget about shivering after getting out from under the water. What's more, the underfloor heating is hidden under the floor, which means your bathroom will no longer be disfigured by a wall-mounted radiator. You can use the space thus freed up for an additional hanger. You can install an additional heating mat on the wall, under the tiles. This will ensure that the towels hung there will dry quickly and will be pleasantly warm during use.

Advantages of using a heating mat in the bathroom
- Underfloor heating is ideal for all bathrooms and shower areas, regardless of their size or floor covering. Our products are completely safe, so they can be used even in the shower without any problems.
- Our systems can be used as a primary heating source in almost all bathrooms, providing a pleasant, warm room from morning to evening. They can also be used as a simple underfloor heating system for a warm floor effect if your bathroom is heated by an alternative system. In either case, it is an undeniable element of luxury at an excellent price.
- Bathrooms usually have floors that are cold to the touch, which can make you shiver when you get out of the tub or shower. An electric floor heating system transforms cool floors into luxurious warm tiles.
- Our QuickNet-160 heating mats have a very fast response time that allows you to heat the floor in just ten to twenty minutes. Therefore, it is sufficient to start them just before entering the water.
- The gentle heat provided by underfloor heating minimizes air movement, thus preventing drafts and helping to create an environment low in dust, pollen and allergens. By distributing heat throughout the room, underfloor heating avoids excessive radiant heat that radiators can produce.
- If you have a small bathroom (or toilet) lined with tile or stone flooring, use a 160 W/m2 heating mat system. In this way, you will offset the high heat loss characteristic of such rooms.
- While the cost of installing an electric underfloor heating system in a bathroom is small, for many people it is an extraordinary luxury, which they price well above the value of the system itself. Take advantage of this if you are selling your property: a house with underfloor heating will fetch a much higher price than the cost of such an installation would suggest.
- The installation of electric floor heating is invisible. Thus, it does not disfigure your bathroom, and at the same time it is fully safe.
- Heating mats are increasingly used in the floor of showers and in the lower walls to quickly dry them after bathing and thus prevent the growth of mold or discoloration of the grout.
- The even distribution of heat means that optimal conditions always prevail throughout the bathroom. You can forget about air being too hot near the radiator and too cold in the rest of the room.
- With nearly 100% efficiency and fast heating time, each of our electric floor heating systems operates at a lower temperature than a conventional heating system. This results in lower energy consumption and therefore lower space heating costs.
- RAYCHEM floor systems have the most favorable warranty for the customer, which also includes repairing the damage in the floor and restoring it to its original state (before the failure occurred).
Is it possible to install a heating mat under a shower?
Installation of electric floor heating under the shower is a controversial topic. After all, this is the "0" zone, which requires a high degree of electrical protection. This is the main argument of opponents of such a solution.
However, the discussion on this topic is completely unnecessary, because the manufacturers have made every effort and made it from materials designed for this type of environment. This includes mats from the QuickNet series. They have the appropriate standards and approvals, and the method of installation further protects it from mechanical damage.
The only difference is the installation of the system by a licensed electrician and the execution of the relevant measurements. But the most important thing is that electric underfloor heating can also be safely used in showers without a shower tray (placed directly under the floor).
Bathroom heating mat on the wall
- Wall heating is most often used as a concealed heating and drying system for towels. Convection current heats the wall, and the heat it emits heats the towels hung on the wall. This allows you to get rid of moisture from them, for example, after wiping your hands.
- Heating with a heating mat provides a safe wall temperature that affects the entire surface. Thus, there is no risk of burns, and at the same time the efficiency of towel drying is very high.
- QuickNet mats are suitable for installation in horizontal and vertical surfaces, so any wall can be used to heat towels in your bathroom.
- A warm wall in the bathroom can also serve as additional heating for the bathroom. Leaning on such a warm wall can be very pleasant and help dry a wet back or hair.

What kind of heating mat for the bathroom?
- A heating mat for the bathroom must ensure the highest level of safety, so it is necessary to buy products from a well-known and reputable company like RAYCHEM.
- Our heating mats and underfloor heating cables have internationally recognized safety certificates. They certify that, according to laboratory tests, our products can be used in any home.
- Choosing the right heating power is very important. An installation that is too weak may not be able to heat the room. Too powerful, on the other hand, will not perform optimally and will often shut down. Fortunately, you can call us and ask for details. Based on a few simple questions, we will suggest which power will work best for you.
What should you follow when choosing a heating mat for the bathroom?
Not every solution will work in such a place, so the first step is to check the instructions on the package. There should be information about such a purpose of a particular model of heating mat. In addition, it is worth noting some important facts:
- Heating power. one of the most important parameters of floor heating for the bathroom is the power of the mats used. In the bathroom, mats with a power of 150 - 170 W/m² work best.
- The method of fixing the mat. Some solutions are very simple to apply, others require more work. If you hire a professional, this problem becomes less important.
- Price is also important when choosing a mat . Cheaper models will not always be a better option. Therefore, it is worth carefully comparing the parameters of the available floor heating mats to choose the optimal option for purchase.
- Pay special attention to the product warranty! The warranty should also cover the repair of the floor and not just replacement with a new product.
On the market you will find a variety of heating mats that will also work perfectly under bathroom tiles. An excellent example is our RAYCHEM QuickNet system. It will work well in any bathroom and will increase comfort, especially for post-bath activities, when a wet body is particularly vulnerable to the cold.
What for the bathroom floor?
- The most popular finish for the bathroom floor remains ceramic tiles. They work perfectly with heating mats, because this heating system allows to get rid of the biggest drawback of tiles - cold, unpleasant touch.
- The 160 W/m2 systems provide fast heating time, so they are perfect for bathrooms - just turn on the mat before you start bathing to ensure luxurious conditions when getting out of the tub.
- Heating mat systems also work well for vinyl, glued stave or laminate flooring. It is enough to flood the mats with a leveling compound 15 mm thick for QuickNet-90 heating mats or 25 - 30 mm thick for QuickNet-160 heating mats, and any type of floor can be laid on such a prepared subfloor.
- Underfloor heating is a universal solution - you do not need to prepare additional installations or adapt the building to this type of system. All you need to do is install the system in the floor and supply power to it.
What instead of a heating mat for a bathroom under tiles?
- Instead of a heating mat, you can also use a heating cable with a thickness of 4 - 6 mm. It will work especially well in small bathrooms with complex floor geometry. The cable can be easily installed in every nook and cranny, ensuring proper heat distribution.
- Heating cables mean less material cost for installation.
- Such systems provide a very stable temperature, so they are mainly used for regularly heated rooms.
- The use of heating cables does not significantly affect the height of the floor.
- Installations based on wires can reach much higher power, up to 180 W/m2, due to the density of the laying. This makes it easier to heat rooms subject to high heat losses.
- Our kits, although they always include a high-adhesion adhesive for attaching the cable to the floor, can be purchased at a very attractive price.
What else to pay attention to when heating the bathroom floor?
- Usually most of the available floor space in a bathroom is covered by underfloor heating. Also under any bathroom furniture suspended from the wall or free-standing bathtubs. On the other hand, we do not recommend installing a heating mat under floor-standing furniture directly on the floor, as they can retain heat and damage the system. For more information, see our guide to installing a heating mat under tiles.
- Smaller bathrooms, toilets and conservatories usually have high heat loss and only part of their floor can be heated. For this reason, a high-power (as much as 200 W/m2) system is desirable to ensure that the temperature rises quickly and heat loss is negated. This way, instead of running the system at low levels all day, you simply turn it on for the time you want to use the conservatory, saving energy during the remaining time.
- For bathrooms with poorly insulated floors, we suggest considering the use of structural thermal insulation boards installed under the heating system. These boards will speed up the heating response time. This means that when the heating mats are turned on, the floor will reach the desired temperature faster, saving energy and money.
- Note that the thermostat controls the heating by means of a floor temperature sensor and an air temperature sensor (located in the housing of the device). Therefore, it must always be installed inside the heated room, i.e. in our bathroom. It should be placed on the wall outside of hazardous areas (exposed to water) - talk to your electrician for more information.
- RAYCHEM QuickNet-160 tile mats are fully and accurately grounded for safety and there is no need to install an additional steel grounding grid on the mat. This saves you time and money.
